Your safety is always the first priority. If wind or hail has damaged your roof and you feel the house is not safe, leave and go somewhere safe, like a car or a neighbor’s house.
When your house is safe to enter:
- Take reasonable steps to protect your undamaged items by moving or covering them, if possible.
- Make sure your valuables and important documents are stored in a safe, dry place
Assess the damage — Prepare a list describing what has been damaged or lost. Where possible, take pictures/video the damages.
Do not dispose of damaged personal property without first notifying your insurer.
Provide details of loss — A claim adjuster will work with you to confirm the details of your loss and guide you throughout the claims process.
Provide documents — You may be asked to provide us with proof of ownership and/or original invoices to support your claim. You may also be asked to complete and return a Proof of Loss document.
Estimate the damages — You can use the recommended Vendors that your Insurer provides or you can use a contractor of your choice to estimate and repair the damage. If you use a recommended vendor, the work is guaranteed* (guarantee vary between insurers).
